I mean... you play as a cat. So obviously this was going to be on my radar of games to play! I am late to the party, I realise this. I have too many hobbies to maintain to any kind of up-to-date standard, and I was waiting for this to release to X-Box which contributed to the delay. So now that my excuses are out of the way... This is an awesome game! I wasn't expecting it to be as engaging and heartwarming as it is.
The Plot
You're a cat hanging out with your cat friends when you're accidentally (and heart-wrenchingly) separated from your chums and wind up in an underground dystopian world populated by AI robots. Before you get too far, you find a dormant AI, named B-12, trapped in a computer and, like the clever cat you are, you release it from it's digital purgatory. It doesn't remember much about it's origin, but decides to help you out in an effort to discover it's own origins as well as assist you on your journey out of this underground world.
On first being spotted by the robot community, panic ensues. What is this furry purring thing?! Once your status as a Zurk, a man-made creature designed to eat bio-waste turned eat any-fucking-thing demon, is confirmed as false, you're welcomed to the robot community. Your appearance stirs questions about the outside being habitable once again, eluding to some kind of ecological disaster, but going to the outside is strictly forbidden and quite impossible thanks to the Zurk population eating anything, biological or mechanical, that moves. This results of segments of the underground being cut off from one another, as well as routes to the outside, thanks to Zurks lurking in the pathways between.
With the help of B-12, you're able to understand what your new robot friends are saying and are lead on a trial of clues and tasks benefiting from your small stature and nimble feline abilities revealing what happened to all the humans, discovering where the Zurks came from and what they're vulnerable to, and opening up the underground community to a thriving outside once more. There are a handful of side-quests thrown in, as well as offering the opportunity to just be a cat. So you can bet that I spent a lot of time just knocking shit over and getting suitable disgruntled responses on occasion.
In short, I loved this game. It was surprisingly heartwarming, has a really engaging story, the graphics are pretty cool, there's a really great amount of little puzzles to solve and is just challenging enough without being maddening. It's a lot of fun. My only grip is that it's also one of the shortest games I've ever played. So short that there's even an achievement available for completing the story in 2 hours! I wouldn't give it a super high replayability score, but it does have the niche of letting you be a cat in a video game, and there's a few collection bits you can go back and do for the completionist out there.
Gameplay
Super easy to manage. You're a cat so there's not an overwhelming amount to manage, and any extra bits afforded to you by your AI buddy are minimal but effective.
